Sydney, Australia: Outsider Gallery is proud to announce ‘FRAGMENTS,’ an exhibition showcasing the work of the eccentric Belgian artist, Guy de Jong. This rare event marks the first public viewing of de Jong's work in over a decade, offering art enthusiasts a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a body of work which has, until now, remained largely hidden from the public eye.
De Jong has spent sixty years creating intricate paintings, sculptures, and murals that challenge conventional artistic norms. His work, known for its raw authenticity and idiosyncratic expressiveness, reflects his engagement with themes of love, suffering and self-discovery. After a successful career travelling across Europe, de Jong retreated to a remote village in the Italian Alps, where he continued to create in solitude, far from the influence of the mainstream art scene.

‘FRAGMENTS’ brings together a selection of de Jong’s most compelling works, many of them unseen, offering a glimpse into the mind of an artist driven by pure creative impulse.
Each piece in the exhibition captures the essence of de Jong’s unique perspective, blending vivid storytelling with a visceral, unfiltered approach to art. The exhibition’s title alludes to de Jong’s boundary-dissolving exploration of self, other and space, illuminating fragmented realities through a rich and deeply personal symbolic world
“Guy de Jong is an artist who defies categorization, and ‘FRAGMENTS’ is a testament to his extraordinary vision,” said Michael Pizzardello, co-founder of Outsider Gallery.
“This exhibition is an invitation to experience the joyful creations of an artist who has dedicated his life to self-expression.” said Nik Ternezis, co-founder.
“I live in the sky. I don’t think people understand what that means. My art is about love and suffering. True love.” said Guy de Jong.
The exhibition will be held at Outsider Gallery’s new space at 144 Commonwealth St, Surry Hills.
The opening reception will take place on Friday, September 6, from 6-8pm.
‘FRAGMENTS’ not only marks Outsider Gallery’s first exhibition in Sydney, but also offers a rare chance to engage with the inner world of an artist inspired by personal visions. Collectors and art enthusiasts alike will find much to discover here.

About Guy de Jong:
Guy de Jong (1949, Belgium) is a solitary artist residing in the mountains of Como, Italy. Trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, de Jong embarked on a nomadic journey across Europe, leaving behind a trail of distinctive works ranging from large-scale murals to fully painted buildings. Despite his achievements, including numerous awards and exhibitions, many of his works remain uncatalogued.
Working across a range of mediums including painting, drawing, and sculpture, de Jong's art emerges intuitively from his imagination. His style blends spontaneous, painterly strokes and complex geometric patterns with a confident sense of composition, capturing a raw, emotional intensity that directly speaks to the core of human experience.
